High blood pressure often has no noticeable symptoms, making it a silent risk factor for serious health issues such as heart attacks, strokes, heart disease, heart failure, kidney disease, and vascular dementia. Early detection is essential to prevent and manage hypertension effectively.

Our Blood Pressure Check Service

At Paydens Pharmacy, we provide a free NHS Hypertension Service to help you stay on top of your blood pressure. You may be eligible if you meet the following criteria:

• Age 40 or Over: Without a prior confirmed diagnosis of hypertension.
• GP Referral: If your GP has requested a blood pressure check.
• 35 – 39 years old with a Family History: If you are under 40 and have a recognized family history of hypertension.*

*Eligibility is at the discretion of the pharmacy staff.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

When you arrive at your appointment, you will be taken to a private consultation room. A pharmacy team member will explain the service, confirm your eligibility, and obtain your consent. A cuff will be placed on your upper arm to measure your blood pressure. Following the reading, the staff member will discuss the results with you. If necessary, may offer you an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor to wear for 24 hours for further assessment.

What is an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor?

If your blood pressure reading is between 140/90 mmHg and 180/120 mmHg, you may be offered an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor.
